Wines of Italy Tasting Event on Thursday 19th October 2017 at 7.30pm
Our October wine tasting event features wines from Italy. It will demonstrate the sheer diversity of Italian wines. On the evening there will be three white wines and three reds. As usual, this will be accompanied by cheeses, charcuterie and our house baked soughdough bread.
We are delighted to welcome winemaker Paola Rosina to Victualler. She will showcase the organic Gavi white wines of her family’s La Mesma estate. Each wine will demonstrate the impact of different terroir on the estate and how different approaches to fermentation and aging vessels can impact the final wine. A fascinating opportunity to taste these wines side by side.
The La Mesma winery is located in Piedmont, Italy – run by three sisters – Paola, Francesca and Anna. Organic wines from the Cortese grape, on a 100 hectare estate – 27 hectares under vine – located within the cru’s of Monterotondo and Tassarolo.
The family’s on-going quest for quality is inseparable from a deeply rooted respect for the environment. The Gavi area is rich in biodiversity, with woods surrounding the vineyards, and insects and wild animals free to roam: healthy vines in a healthy environment.
The sisters want their vines to live a long, healthy life. Therefore they use the soft pruning techniques, and controlled grass treatments. Weed-killers and chemical fertilizers are never used. In the cellars, they employ clean power provided by solar panels.
Following Paola’s tasting of Gavi white wines, our friend Peter McDaid – from Raeburn Fine Wines – will present three Italian red wines for you from Tuscany, Liguria and Sicily.
Here is a list of the great wines we will be pouring at the tasting:
